// Wim Maes Portrait
Wim Maes finds, cuts and replaces images in order to recreate new, intense stories. His collages are melancholic, almost heavy. The spectator is expected to open his mind to feel the deeper meaning. Even when the image seems to speak for itself, often it’s surprising what the viewer will discover. Sometimes the title is necessary to understand the deeper meaning, but once revealed, one will be overwhelmed by hidden details, hidden stories. Wim’s personal emotions are always present in his work. Each collage is a search to find the perfect combination. Always using images from the same era, playing with composition and tension, results in an equilibrium of black and white, silence and story, surprise and recognition, illusion and insight.
