Kubra Khademi is an Afghan artist and performer born in 1989. Through her practice, Kubra Khademi explores her life as a refugee and as a woman. She studied Fine Arts at Kabul University,before joining Beaconhouse University in Lahore, Pakistan. There, she began creating public performances, a practice she continued on her return to Kabul,in response to a male-dominated society with extreme patriarchal politics. After the execution of her performance known as Armor in 2015, she was forced to flee the country. Taking refuge in France, she obtained French citizenship in 2020. Today, she lives and works in Paris. In 2016, she received the title of “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”. Nominated for the Emerige Revelations in 2019, she is the 2020 winner of the 1% art market of the city of Paris.

Her work has been presented in many venues, including the Ludwig Museum (Cologne, 2023), the Mill6 Foundation (Hong Kong, 2023), Kunsthalle Dessau (2023), Collection Lambert (Avignon,2022), Kadist Foundation (Paris, 2022), Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern(2022), Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Kunsthalle Thun, Void Contemporary Art Centre(Derry Londonderry), Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Bangkok Biennial, Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris), El Rastro(Madrid), Signal (Brussels), Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris), MuCEM(Marseille), Fondation Fiminco (Romainnville).

Kubra Khademi ist eine 1989 geborene afghanische Künstlerin und Performerin. Kubra Khademi erforscht in ihren Arbeiten ihr Leben als Flüchtling und als Frau. Sie studierte Bildende Kunst an der Universität Kabul, bevor sie an die Beaconhouse University in Lahore, Pakistan, ging. Dort begann sie, öffentliche Performances zu entwickeln, eine Praxis, die sie nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Kabul fortsetzte, als Reaktion auf eine von Männern dominierte Gesellschaft mit extrem patriarchalischer Politik. Nach der Ausführung ihrer Performance “Armor” im Jahr 2015 musste sie aus dem Land fliehen. Heute lebt und arbeitet sie in Paris. Im Jahr 2016 erhielt sie den Titel “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”.
