Portrait

Valérie Jolly is a French artist known for her delicate paper sculptures that explore impermanence, presence, and absence. A graduate of Saint Martins in London, she received the Royal British Society of Sculptors Award in 2008. Using wet tissue paper to mold objects, she creates translucent “second skins” that capture their essence. Her work reflects on subtle boundaries—what Marcel Duchamp called the “infra-thin”—between the material and immaterial. She also crafts light sculptures and tapestries, blending stone, cardboard, and silk paper to explore contrasts between lightness and solidity.
