In 2014 I had the great fortune to be invited by Adrian Sutton to an
inspiring trip to Cluj (Klausenburg) in Romania.
Together with a small group of collectors and friends, we spent three days in
studios of the College of Art and galleries.
Most of the time we spent in the now famous former paintbrush factory, where about
two Dozen artists have their studios. Like my fellow travelers I acquired in the
Brush Factory some works by three wonderful painters – Ioana Iacob, Veres Szabolcs
and Dan Maciuca.
Soon the idea was born to show these artists in Cologne, so I could realize a first
exhibition with them already in spring 2015. I am very grateful to Adrian to have
made this exhibition possible through the amazing journey. I am happy to be able to
show Ioana, Dan and Veres now for the second time in this constellation.
The series of paintings by Ioana Iacob, Veres Szabolcs & Dan Maciuca offer us a
sensitive approach to the representations of the intimate. The silent intimacy of
Veres figures, the intimacy of sexuality of Ioana’s paintings or the close loving
look on the roughness of nature of Dan. All three make the “ordinary” seem sensual
and tangible to us. In addition, the choice of formats, the close look forces us
into intimacy, like the photograph of a loved one in a locket.
Like the voyeur, we participate in the sexuality, in the passion of the figures but
above all in the energy of the composition and the duct of the brushstrokes of
Ioana Iacob.
The generosity that Veres Szabolcs offers us is to convey to us his imperfect,
honest, broken, torn and endlessly sensual, pictorial world.
Stone, earth, roots, water – Dan Maciuca’s loving view of our nature is countered
with strong and determined charcoal strokes.

Im Jahr 2014 hatte ich das große Glück von Adrian Sutton, auf eine
inspirierende Reise nach Cluj (Klausenburg)in Rumänien eingeladen worden
zu sein. Zusammen mit einer kleinen Gruppe von Sammlern und
Freunden verbrachten wir drei Tage in Ateliers der Hochschule
für Kunst und Galerien. Die meiste Zeit verbrachten wir in der
inzwischen berühmten, ehemaligen Pinselfabrik, wo etwa zwei
Dutzend Künstler ihr Atelier haben. Wie meine Mitreisenden
erwarb ich in der Pinselfabrik einige Arbeiten von drei
wunderbaren Malern – Ioana Iacob Veres Szabolcs und Dan Maciuca.
Bald entstand die Idee, diese Künstler in Köln zu zeigen, sodass ich schon im
Frühjahr 2015 eine erste Ausstellung mit den Künstlern realisieren konnte. Ich bin
Adrian sehr dankbar diese Ausstellung durch die erstaunliche Reise möglich gemacht
zu haben und glücklich, Ioana, Dan und Veres nun zum zweiten Mal in dieser
Konstellation zeigen zu können.
Die Gemäldeserie von Ioana Iacob, Veres Szabolcs & Dan Maciuca bieten uns einen
einfühlsamen Zugang zu den Repräsentationen vom Intimen. Die stille Intimität der
Figuren von Veres, die Intimität der Sexualität von den Bildern von Ioana oder der
nahe liebevolle blick auf der Rauheit der Natur von Dan. Alle drei lassen uns das
„Gewöhnliche“ Sinnlich und greifbar erscheinen. Dazu kommt die Wahl der Formate,
der nahe blick zwingt uns in die Intimität, wie die Fotografie eines geliebten
Menschen in einem Medaillon.
Gleich dem Voyeur, nehmen wir teil an der Sexualität, an der Leidenschaft der
Figuren aber vor allem an der Energie der Komposition und des Duktus der
Pinselstriche von Ioana Iacob.
Die Großzügigkeit die Veres Szabolcs uns bietet, besteht darin uns seine
unvollkommene, ehrliche, gebrochene, zerrissene und endlos sinnliche, Bildwelt zu
vermitteln.
Stein, Erde, Wurzeln, Wasser – Dan Maciuca‘s liebevoller Blick auf unsere Natur
wird mit kräftigen und entschlossenen Kohlestrichen konterkariert.
