Erst kürzlich beleuchtete Christies in einem umfangreichen Artikel die außergewöhnliche Ansammlung talentierter Maler in Cluj-Napoca: „The abandoned paintbrush factory producing art´s new superstars.“

Mit Freude stellte ich fest, dass bereits drei der vorgestellten Künstler in meiner Galerie ausgestellt wurden: Ioana Iacob, Dan Maciuca und Szabolcs Veres.

Nun präsentieren wir Szabolcs Veres erste Einzelausstellung in Deutschland: „one year of solitude“ (Ein Jahr der Einsamkeit)

Cluj-Napoca (dt. Klausenburg) mit Freunden und Sammlern zu entdecken ist zu einer aufregenden, neuen Tradition der Galerie geworden. Besondere Freude empfand ich bei meinem letzten Besuch, als ich mit Veres die Werke für diese Ausstellung auswählte.

Der Titel der Ausstellung ist nicht nur ein offensichtlicher Bezug zu Gabriel Garcia Marquez´ Roman, sondern erzählt von der inneren Entwicklung des Künstlers selbst. Absichtlich wählte er die Isolation, die ihm eine enorm produktive Phase bescherte. Die Werke nun in der Galerie zu sehen bereitet mir eine große Vorfreude auf die Ausstellung.

Sein Werk kreist um mythologische Themen und Interpretationen, wie auch um die Leere und Einsamkeit. Schönheit, Farbe und „das Malerische“ umspannen das Alleinsein und eine tiefe Ahnung von Existenz.

Ich bin sehr glücklich die Arbeiten von Szabolcs Veres zu zeigen.

Only a few weeks ago Christie ´s published an article on the extraordinary concentration of highly talented painters in Cluj “The abandoned paintbrush factory producing art´s new superstars”. We are very happy to see that of the featured artitsts three were alredy part of our Cluj painting exhibition: Ioana Iacob, Dan Maciuca and Szabolcs Veres.
Veres´s exhibition “one year of solitude” now marks the first solo presentation in Cologne.

Visiting Cluj and the famous paintbrush factory with collectors and friends has become an exciting new tradition. I was especially looking forward to my last trip as it was organized around the selection of paintings for Veres´s upcoming show. Now that the works arrived in the gallery I am even more exited about the exhibition.

The title “one year of solitude” not only refers to the famous novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez but also to a mental state that the artist purposefully went through – a state of inner seclusion that brought with it enormous creative output. Mythical themes and interpretations as well as themes of emptyness and solitude are to varying degree reflected in his new work. Beauty, color and “painterlyness” embrace solitude and a deep notion of existence.
